The Vascular Action of Pilocarpine, Eserine

چکیده
relative cutaneous anergy often present in animals and man with inflammatory tuberculous lesions of the eye. This concept of the pathogenesis of a tuberculous lesion offers' obvious points for therapeutic attack on the disease. The first of these is enhancement of immunity, and nothing specific has been done as yet to stimulate local resistance artificially. The second is removal of the fatal tissue hypersensitivity, and this can usually be accomplished by the use of tuberculin as a desensitizing agent, and has a distinctly beneficial effect on the clinical course of the lesion. The third is the direct attack on the tubercle bacilli, and in streptomycin and promizole combined, we have a powerful weapon to this end. Doubtless other better' antibiotics and sulphones will be found, but at present this combination appears the best available.

Studies on chemotherapy of parasitic helminths (VI) effects of various neuropharmacological agents on the motility of Dipylidium caninum.
Effects of various neuropharmacological agents on the motility of Dipylidium caninum was studied. 5-HT stimulated the motility of D. caninum, while other drugs such as GABA, adrenaline, phenylephrine, isoproterenol, dibenamine, and propranolol showed little effect. The stimulatory action of 5-HT was antagonized by tryptophol. Stibnal caused paralysis which was blocked by the pretreatment with 5...
متن کاملVasoconstriction produced in the iris-ciliary body of the cat eye by stimulation of local ganglion-like receptors.
The presence of local ganglion-like receptors in the anterior segment of the cat eye was demonstrated in an isolated, arterially perfused preparation. The administration of the known ganglionic stimulants, acetylcholine (Ach) plus eserine, pilocarpine, and dimethylphenylpiperazinium bromide (DMPP) produced a vasconstriction. The actions of these stimulants were abolished by a-adrenergic blockad...
متن کاملThe Action of Eserine upon the Eye Following the Use of Atropine.
Is vsiesw of the conflicting reports in ophthalmologictal literature about the action of eserine on an eye previously under the influence of atropine, it seeimled desirable to re-examine the problem. Pharirmacological writers are in no doubt of the mode of action of these drugs and no long discussion is proposed here. The acetylcholinie procluced at the parasympathetic nerve-endingys is normi-i...
متن کاملDissociation of cholinergic supersensitivity from receptor number in ciliary muscle.
Ciliary ganglionectomy in the cynomolgus monkey produced loss of the accommodative response to electrical stimulation of the Edinger-Westphal nucleus and to topical eserine, concurrent with enhanced responsiveness to topical and systemic pilocarpine. This supersensitivity produced by parasympathetic denervation was not associated with an increase in muscarinic receptor number or affinity measur...

Cholinergic Control of Blood Flow in the Cerebral Cortex of the Rat • Local blood flow was measured in the somatosensory cortex of urethanized rats by means of the hydrogen clearance method. The variations of cortical blood flow in the course of the anesthesia and the effects of the topical application of atropine, eserine and cholinomimetic drugs were studied. During urethan anesthesia, the el...
